La publicación The Week in Chess en su edición número 769 del 3 de agosto de 2009 publica los resultados del Campeonato Nacional de Ajedrez de Puerto Rico. The final phase of the Puerto Rico Chess Championship ended on July 27th 2009, with a new Puerto Rico Chess Champion FM Gariel Berrios-Echevarria with 7.5/10 points. In second place the NM Ramon Ovalle-Burgos and in third place the IM Juan M. Santa Torres. The event was full of public until the last round since the championship was not decided until the completion of the final round of the 11 round robin. Carlos Guzman Ortiz withdrew after three rounds. News: George Perez.
