FIDE PRESIDENTS

SINCE THE ORGANIZATION WAS FOUNDED

Fide was founded in Paris in 1924.  Surprisingly, there have been only 6 presidents since that date!  This probably explains a large part of why FIDE and chess (in general) is being slowly phased out of sponsorship of major corporations and hardly exists at all on TV.

1949: Folke Rogard (Sweden)

1970: Max Euwe (Holand)

1978: Fridik Olafsson (Iceland)

1982: Florencio Campomanes (Filipinas)

1995: Kirsan Iljumzhinov (Kalmikia, Rusia)
